Meals on Two Wheels

Launched in early summer of 2009, the Meals on Two Wheels Project uses bicycle trailers to deliver hot and nutritious meals to the homes of Dunkirk residents unable to cook for themselves. Assigned a regular route normally serviced by volunteers driving automobiles, the use of bicycles proved to be equally as efficient as cars, with the added benefit of being environmentally friendly. Signs displaying commercial advertising messages were mounted on the sides of the Meals on Two Wheels trailers, in exchange for monetary donations by the advertisers to the Meals on Wheels organization. The project has recently completed its sixth year of operation, and is scheduled for expansion. It has recently added four new, specially equipped bicycles, and four new state-of-the-art bicycle trailers to its inventory of project assets.
